Position Description:

Your future duties and responsibilities:

The Senior Engineer - VMware will perform a variety of IT services associated with systems design, implementation, performance optimization, and administration of VMware vSphere, vCenter, and vRealize over their full system lifecycle. Library infrastructure resides in four data centers located in Washington, DC (2), Manassas, VA, and Culpeper, VA.

Daily activities may include VMware Server support services such as:

• Systems engineering and administration of VMware vSphere environments

• Implementation and oversight of VMware vRealize products on data center networks

• Configuring third party data management tools

• Performance monitoring, optimization, and reporting

• Preparing written reports and project deliverables for work performed

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

REQUIRED:

• 10+ years of relevant experience

• VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) or equivalent experience

• Hands on experience with vSphere 6.x

PREFERRED:

• Design, implement, and support VMware vSphere 6.0 and vSphere 6.5 across multiple data centers - including cross vCenter Server vMotion, automation, data migrations, auto deploy, distributed virtual switches, TCP/IP routing and switching, virtualized storage and Windos Server or RHEL administration.

• Design and implement VMware vRealize Automation and vRealize Operations Manager

• Design and implement container technology such as Docker, Kubernetes, or Pivotal Cloud Foundry

• Configuring automated tasks with third party configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet

• Administer and maintain Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) hardware

• Providing well-written reports and verbal communication for both managers and technical audiences, using Windows 7 and MS Office 2016

• Creating and updating formal documents/reports

• US citizenship required

• Work schedule of 40 hours a week Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30am and 6:30pm, except for Federal holidays or government-directed closings

• Infrequent performance of duties during evenings or weekends may be required with advance client approval.

• Travel to data center facilities local to Washington, DC may be required.

Desired:

• BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

• Prior experience delivering IT support to the Library of Congress
