Position Description:

CGI is currently seeking a Sr. Software Developer to join our team in Sacramento, CA to work on highly visible transformation projects for some of the world’s largest enterprises.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain multi-tier application programs that combine web browser, application server, and database functionality, using technologies such as Java, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS, and SQL

• Collaborate on assignments while working under the guidance of the Software Development Manager to meet customer/end-user needs

• Guide assigned projects through the software development lifecycle, assuring timely completion, and effective communication to maximize value created and minimize costs

• Create design documents that satisfy business requirements, following adopted methodology that leads to efficient, easy to maintain, and reliable systems

• Follow coding standards as outlined by each project's leader

• Test programs to ensure they meet business requirements

• Maintain code to enhance functionality and improve efficiency, as well as replace malfunctioning or obsolete code

• Participate in migration meetings and resolve migration issues as necessary

• Develop technical documentation pertaining to the design and implementation of software, following relevant standards for documentation

• Ensure all code is version controlled according to standards and best practices

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Key items we will be looking for are:

• Experience with development languages, such as Java, and with other application frameworks, techniques, and tools

• Develop and maintain multi-tier application programs that combine web browser, application server, and database functionality, using technologies such as Java, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS, and SQL

• Experience with IBM WebSphere Application Server (5.0 / 6.0 / 7.0) and WebSphere MQ

• Collaborate on assignments while working under the guidance of the Software Development Manager to meet customer/end-user needs

• Experience in or knowledge of agile development methodologies

• Experience in or knowledge of writing REST APIs and Microservices-based applications

You should also possess:

• Experience writing test-driven software development

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Good time management and organizational skills

• Ability to work on challenging issues independently or in a team environment

• Ability to pair with a customer’s development team and guide them on leading-edge technologies

• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and environments


• Functional knowledge of California DMV Driver License and Vehicle Registration programs

• Experience with Elastic and / or Splunk

• Understanding of cloud platforms and providers, such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, or Microsoft Azure

• Experience working with private and public clouds

• Experience with Splunk

• Knowledge of CI/CD tools, including Jenkins, Concourse, or others

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, or related field/equivalent experience
