Position Description:

CGI is seeking a skilled and motivated Apache Beam Engineer to join our data engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining data processing pipelines using Apache Beam. This role requires deep expertise in data engineering, strong problem-solving skills, and a solid understanding of distributed data processing frameworks.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Design and implement data processing pipelines using Apache Beam.

• Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and refine data processing needs.

• Optimize existing data processing pipelines for better performance and lower cost.

• Set up monitoring and alerting for all Apache Beam pipelines to ensure reliability and quick issue resolution.

Implement robust data quality checks and validation mechanisms in the pipelines.

Future duties and responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize data processing pipelines using Apache Beam to meet specific business requirements.

• Integrate Apache Beam pipelines with various data sources, storage systems, and processing engines.

• Identify and implement optimizations to improve the performance and efficiency of data processing pipelines.

• Write unit tests and perform debugging to ensure the reliability and correctness of Apache Beam pipelines.

• Document design decisions, code, and processes related to Apache Beam pipelines for future reference and collaboration.

• Monitor the health and performance of Apache Beam pipelines in production and perform maintenance tasks as needed.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams including data engineers, data scientists, and software developers to understand requirements and integrate Apache Beam pipelines into larger data infrastructure.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related discipline.

• 5-8 years of solid hands-on software development experience with a focus on continuous delivery and deployment and cloud automation.

• 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing data processing pipelines and hands-on data engineering experience.

• Experience with big data technologies such as Apache Beam, Apache Spark, Hadoop, Apache Flink and AWS Glue.

• Experience with databases and storage systems, such as SQL, NoSQL, and data lakes.

• Experience with DevOps tools like Jenkins, GitHub, JFrog, uDeploy.

• Knowledge of platform tools like VM, Open Shift Container etc.

• Understanding and experience of concepts such as Automation, Capacity planning, Monitoring, Performance optimization etc.

• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Scala or Go, with experience in developing scalable and maintainable code.

• Software design patterns, SDLC, Open-Source Development, Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.

• Knowledge of distributed computing concepts and experience working with distributed data processing systems.

• Understanding of data processing concepts, data formats (e.g., Avro, Parquet), and data serialization techniques.

• Experience with monitoring tools like Dynatrace, Splunk etc.

• Experience with building scalable and efficient data processing pipelines.

• Experience with ensuring data accuracy and integrity.

• Experience with Optimizing data processing workflows for performance.

• Proactive approach to identifying problems, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.

OPTIONAL: Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.

• Familiarity with stream processing frameworks like Apache Kafka or Apache Pulsar.

• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.

• Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements in data processing pipelines.

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $85,800 - $209,100.”
