Position Description:

CGI Federal is seeking a Mail Clerk/Automation Clerk to support the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Office of Asset and Facilities Management (OAFM), Administrative Service Branch (ASB) in Irving, TX

Your future duties and responsibilities:

  1. Screens incoming mail, parcels and shipment using an X-ray machines and also by visual inspections to ensure suspicious items are identified and properly isolated from the normal mail stream. Follows local security procedures in the event a suspicious item(s) is received. Reviews, sorts, and routes a wide variety of correspondence, and incoming materials to the appropriate program office as appropriate.

  2. Processes incoming/outgoing mail and FedEx/UPS packages in accordance with agency and postal services requirements. Assists in updating old and establishes new distribution patterns and codes as required.

  3. Work requires long periods of standing, bending, walking, pulling, reaching, or requires recurring lifting and carrying of bags/pouches/packages/moderately heavy boxes, weighing up to 70 pounds.

  4. Contractor screens outgoing materials ensuring proper format, assembled, and addressed in accordance with appropriate regulations and contacts originator or appropriate program office to resolve errors or discrepancies.

  5. Knowledge of mail classifications, zip codes, sizes, and the various types of special handling mail and materials such as registered, priority, express, insured, certified, and return receipt requested.

  6. Provides administrative assistance/staff support to customers, program specialists, managers and performs various clerical duties such as sorting bulk mail from post office, sorting/distributing supplies, mail, receiving/signing for accountable mail pieces, and performs additional mail handling tasks as rerouting misdirected mail, date stamping, counting mail, screening for priority items, preparing routing and control forms, etc.

  7. Inspects official mail by size, weight, and class; assigns United States Postal Service (USPS) rates according to standards to ensure the most efficient use of postal funds and operates postage meter/mail machine, computer workstation running Windows and Microsoft Office applications, associated equipment and software.

  8. Receives, records, redirects, and processes misaddressed official and accountable mail. Answers telephone and oral inquiries on mail related issues.

  9. Contractor provides instruction and advice to customers regarding certified and registered mail and the most efficient use of postal funds through shape-based postage pricing.

  10. Contractor maintains official mail related records in accordance with the DHS and ICE records management procedures.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum 1 year of related experience

• Must have a valid State operator's permit for the type of vehicle being operated and a proven safe driving record as established by the National Driver Register or equivalent check

• Ability to successfully complete the CGI Background Investigation to include; 50 State Criminal, Education and Employment

• Ability to successfully complete a Credit and/or Driving Records check

• Ability to obtain/maintain a Moderate Risk Public Trust security clearance

• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred

• General knowledge of the USPS and proper handling of incoming and outgoing mail

• General familiarity with distribution schedules and routes

• Ability to pay close attention to detail

• Due to the nature of this contract, US Citizenship required

Hourly Rate: $17.23/hour (non-negotiable)

The determination of this range includes various factors including but not limited to: skill set level; experience and training; and licensure and certifications. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
