Position Description:

CGI has a great opportunity for a US Data Protection Officer to join our global team and be based in the Fairfax, VA area. As a the representative of the global Enterprise Data Privacy organization, the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the US Commercial and State Government Strategic Business Unit (SBU) will drive and monitor privacy compliance of CGI’s operations for the U.S.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

-Assist and support the Chief Data Protection Officer (CDPO) activities related to the CGI privacy program, coordinate the CDPO instructions at the SBU and BU level, report directly to the CDPO;

-Provide first point of contact for local regulators, data protection authorities, complainants and privacy rights requests;

-Foster a privacy culture within the SBU and drive the implementation of the CGI privacy program, (key privacy principles, data subjects’ rights, data protection by design and by default, records of processing activities, security of processing, and notification and communication of data breaches, etc.);

-Coordinate a network of privacy champions at the Business unit level;

-Develop materials, conduct on-going privacy training and awareness activities;

-Inform, advise and issue recommendations to SBU stakeholders regarding privacy compliance, where necessary, with the support of the SBU legal department;

-Support identification of Privacy Risk and participate in client negotiations for complex deals;

-Advise the SBU on whether a data protection impact assessment should be carried out, under which methodology, recommend corrective measures to mitigate any risks to the rights and interests of the data subjects;

-Monitor compliance of the SBU with data protection regulations (including EU GDPR) and document all decisions taken;

-Contribute to the data incident and notification process once a data breach has occurred;

-Train, coordinate and assist the Business unit Privacy champions in their activities and ensure a comprehension implementation of the privacy program across BUs.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

-J.D. with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

-Strong background with specialization or certification in IT laws and data protection.

-Passionate for technology, good understanding of IT environments

-Information security /technical background is a plus

-CIPP/US and/or CIPM certifications required

-Strong organizational skills, be able to work independently and with his/her peers, excellent communication and decision making skills.
